The Zendesk alternative for teams who want one flat price
Zendesk bills per agent and meters AI separately on top. miniDesk bills a single fixed amount per workspace, with AI bundled into every plan. Zero per-agent fees, zero metered AI, zero add-ons to assess.
- Free plan, no card
- AI on every plan
- One flat price per workspace
TL;DR
Zendesk starts at $25 a month per agent, or $19 on an annual commitment, and that entry tier lacks live chat: its AI handles email and web forms, while live chat kicks in at Suite Team, $69 an agent. AI is metered on top at $1.50 a resolution on a committed volume, $2.00 pay as you go, and the copilot adds another $50 an agent from Professional up. What you cannot calculate before signing is how many resolutions you will be charged for, because Zendesk determines that after the conversation closes. miniDesk posts a single fixed cost per workspace with AI bundled in. Zendesk is still the right choice if you require enterprise routing, voice, a large integration marketplace, or the compliance documentation a procurement team demands.
The seat is the smaller portion of a Zendesk bill
Expand Compare all plan features on their pricing page and the AI agents section shows two rates: $1.50 per committed automated resolution, $2.00 pay as you go, identical across every plan from Support Team through Suite Enterprise. Suite Team bundles five resolutions per agent monthly. For five agents that yields twenty-five, so a team whose AI handles three thousand conversations pays for the seats and then pays for two thousand nine hundred and seventy-five additional resolutions. The chart below applies the committed rate, which requires pre-purchasing a volume; lacking that commitment raises it by a third. What you cannot determine before signing is how many of your conversations get classified as resolutions, because since 18 May 2026 Zendesk makes that determination after the conversation closes, using a model that reads the transcript, and publishes no benchmark for the ratio. The chart assumes the AI resolves everything it touches, which is the same assumption applied to Intercom, and the maximum either bill can honestly reach.

What you actually pay at scale
Three actual teams, priced from each vendor's own published page. The Zendesk figure uses Suite Team, the cheapest edition bundling both live chat and an AI agent, at $69 an agent month to month, plus $1.50 for every automated resolution beyond the five per agent the plan bundles. That is their committed rate; pay as you go runs $2.00. Copilot, at $50 an agent extra, is excluded. Drag the sliders to plug in your own figures.
Your numbers
miniDesk Starter, one flat price per workspace, sized by the 375 AI conversations you set above. Zendesk is priced on the cheapest tier that fits these seats and has an AI agent answering customers, at their month-to-month rate wherever they publish one, because we sell no annual plan to hold an annual rate against. Zendesk is cheaper on a yearly commitment, so this is the dearer of their two rates and the only one comparable to ours.
Zendesk charges for the outcome rather than the attempt, at $1.50 a resolution on top of the seat, and is costed above with its AI settling every conversation it answers. A conversation it opens and hands to one of your people costs them the seat and nothing more, so that is the dearest their bill can honestly be made to look. Ours is the flat plan price whatever the AI does with them.

Each vendor's own list prices, September 2026, in USD, on the cheapest plan that fits the seats and includes an AI agent. Monthly rates where published, so no annual discount. Volumes count the conversations the AI handles. Zendesk is $1.50 a resolution, their pre-buy rate rather than the $2.00 without, counted on every AI conversation less the five a month Suite Team includes. Check their pricing pages before you decide.
Which one should you actually buy?
You want to know the bill before signing
A single fixed cost per workspace, displayed on the pricing page, with AI bundled in. No agent headcount to project, no resolution tier graded after the month closes, and no add-on list to price individually.
Pick miniDesk
You are a small team without a procurement department
Zendesk is designed for support organizations with a buyer, an implementation phase, and an admin. If your entire support team is the three people who also build the product, the setup overhead is the real cost and ours takes an afternoon.
Pick miniDesk
You need skills-based routing, voice, and a large integration marketplace
Zendesk offers all three and we offer none. If tickets must reach the right specialist via rules, or your customers call you, or your workflow relies on connectors nobody has written for a compact product, go with Zendesk.
Pick Zendesk
Your security review requires the documentation
Enterprise certifications, data residency choices, contractual controls, and a named account team are all things Zendesk provides and we do not. That is a genuine requirement in many companies, and no price gap gets a tool through a review it cannot satisfy.
